What Is FTP?
Functional Threshold Power is an estimate of the highest average power you can sustain for approximately one hour. It is commonly used to set cycling training intensities.
Why Accurate FTP Matters
Your power zones are only as useful as the FTP value used to calculate them. Update your FTP when your fitness changes or after completing a reliable threshold test.
Absolute Power vs Watts Per Kilogram
Absolute watts are particularly important on flat terrain, while watts per kilogram becomes increasingly relevant when climbing or accelerating against gravity.
These calculations provide general training guidance and do not replace individual physiological testing or professional coaching. Different platforms and coaches may use slightly different zone systems.
